Shay Spence, a cuisine and travel writer, social media content developer, and consultant will participate in Season 2 of Next Level Chef. While he makes a career by writing about cuisine and travel, he is as passionate about it. However, it was not the case when he first started. He attended Tulane University as a student, where he got a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government in 2012. Spence, on the other hand, quickly changed his mind and applied to the Institute of Culinary Education to study culinary arts and management. In 2014, he graduated from the institution.
He interned at many organizations throughout his time at Tulane, including the Trust for the National Mall, where he worked as a marketing intern for three months. Following that, he worked as a campus outreach supervisor for Students of the World. Spence was assigned to function as a liaison between the university’s professors and the non-profit that assists students in traveling to underdeveloped nations to “record tales of success.”
In 2014, he worked as a Test Kitchen Intern for Good Housekeeping and Every Day with Rachael Ray after finishing his studies at the culinary school. The Next Level Chef season 2 cast member also worked as an editorial assistant before earning a position as a culinary editor for People Magazine, where he stayed for six years until departing in 2021.
