Sharon “Sevn” Strickland, 24, will soon be competing in Peacock Baking It’s fierce cooking competition, where she and her companion Kandyy will compete for $50,000. The pair will be among eight home chefs trying to impress four “judgemental” grandparents with their delicious dishes. Sevn originally planned to pursue a career in cosmetology, but because of family problems, Sharon decided not to enroll in a cosmetology school 7 hours by car from Kandyy and her ailing mother. Kandyy and her husband were homeless for a while after her mother’s death, sometimes sleeping with relatives.
Sevn and Kandyy then chose to move from their hometown to Charlotte in 2018, where Sven started selling cosmetics. She despises her job and after years of melancholy fighting, she decides to retire in 2020, and one day she takes the pan to prepare cupcakes. After trying a recipe, a competitor for Baking It realized she had never done anything like this before and devised a business strategy on the spot. She went to Walmart with $25 to buy “strawberries, some chocolate, some glitter, some flowers, sugar.” Initially, she chose to develop some specific items for cakes before shifting the focus to the cakes themselves. Her baking company, The Cake Florist, is now thriving and offers a wide range of consumer goods, including personalized cakes, cupcakes and macarons, which will be featured on Baking It.
A contestant on Baking It Strickland, Sharon “Sevn,” was born in Alabama.
Sharon “Sevn” Strickland was born in Montgomery, Alabama and was just 7 months old when her father died. Sven was abused at school because of her weight, and her family became toxic when her stepfather died when Sharon was seven years old. Sevn chose to temporarily move to Rocky Mount after meeting Kandyy on Instagram to care for Kandyy’s ailing mother. As a result, Sharon decided not to attend Atlanta’s cosmetology school, a seven-hour drive from Kandyy, instead planning to go to Charlotte with her partner’s family, as the new town also offers a similarly prestigious vocational school.
Kandyy’s mother passed away in 2018 due to kidney disease. After disagreeing with the landlord, Kandyy and Sharon were evicted from the house. After living in motels and relatives’ homes for a while, the couple moved to Charlotte “with $800 and a hope.” When one of Kandyy’s aunts volunteered to pay for Sevn’s cosmetology school, he accepted. Sharon started her career as a cosmetic artist and most of her clients are sex workers. In an interview, she said that her clients are mostly “kids” and that she had to leave her profession because of her mental health. Sevn chose to start her own baking company in 2020 and can now see her on Baking It season 2.
What does Kandyy think of Sevn’s cooking?
Kandyy currently teaches swimming at British Swim School and is passionate about home remedies. She admits she was “forced to make a cake.” She also said that Sven owns the kitchen.
“I was only allowed in when she needed assistance. Even when she needed help, I stood in her way. ‘OK, just give it to me, I’ll do it,’ she said.
Season 2 of Baking It launches on Peacock on Monday, December 12, at 3:01 a.m. ET.
