Pilar Omega, a competitor to Next Level Chef season 2, has opened its catering prep kitchen, Soul Fusion.
Pilar Omega, CEO and chef of Soul Fusion, will be joining Season 2 of Next Level Chef. She has nearly a decade of experience in the professional kitchen industry and enjoys helping people eat better and live happier, more fulfilled lives.
According to her website:
“She focuses on cooking as a chef to deliver fresh, delicious food that promotes optimal health and fitness. Her recipes are inventive, innovative and nutritious with outstanding nutritional content.”
In a 2021 interview with Voyage Los Angeles, the chef said that she’s loved cooking since she was 5 years old and that food is an important part of her life. Her family has many culinary traditions and her father often produces a spicy sauce that she loves. The Next Level Chef candidate says she’s always wanted to explore, prepare and taste different dishes, and traveling has allowed her to do so. During her college years, she often gave health presentations at local fairs. This allows her to give back to the community through food, and by 2011 she was 27 years old and had opened a farm-to-table snack bar in Redford, Michigan.
When she returned to Los Angeles the following year, she was motivated to be part of the culinary industry there and to seek out work options that would allow her to make a name for herself. She was quickly recruited by Home Girls Cafe and went on to complete a sushi making course at Sushi Row. Her intensive training earned her a job as a sushi chef at Benihana in Santa Monica.
She later worked as a sushi chef and “Grab n Go host” at Wolfgang Puck Catering. During her time with the catering company, she has assisted catering to Emmys, Oscars, Governor’s Ball, NFL, Sony studios and other events. She quit the famous catering company to work as her own chef. Before Covid, she worked as a full-time chef for some of the biggest names in music. She was able to build her brand during the lockdown, and she eventually founded Soul Fusion, her own catering prep kitchen.
The cast of The Next Level Chef season 2 chatted with Voyage Los Angeles about the challenges she’s gone through in the culinary profession. She noted that, despite the fact that being a black woman in the field was a challenge, she was able to chart her own path due to the lack of diversity in the food industry. She will now join Next Level Chef season 2 for a year-long mentorship with a world-renowned chef as well as a $250,000 grand prize.
