Who Is Kristen Kish From “Selena + Chef”?

Season 4 of Selena + Chef will premiere on HBO Max on August 18. The famous culinary program follows actress and singer Selena Gomez as she continues to find her footing in the kitchen with the support of world-renowned chefs. Top Chef champion Kristen Kish will show Gomez how to cook sweet corn and baby carrots with smoked yogurt this season. Kish’s passion for cooking started at the age of five when he began watching the Discovery Channel cookery program Great Chefs in the World.

Kish is heard saying in the teaser for Selena + Chef:

“We’re adhering to a light, colorful, and enjoyable summer vibe.”

Other famous chefs appearing on Selena + Chef Season 4 include Adrienne Cheatham, Devonn Francis, Gordon Ramsay, Ludo Lefebvre, Matty Matheson, Nick DiGiovanni, Paola Velez, Priya Krishna, and Rachael Ray. We learn more about Kristen Kish here, ahead of the show’s season debut.

On Selena + Chef, Kristen Kish often cooks meals influenced by French cuisine.

Kristen Kish was born in Seoul, South Korea, and was adopted at the age of four months by a Michigan family. People often believe that because of her Korean origin, she only prepares Korean foods. Her culinary approach, however, is heavily inspired by French cuisine. Kish’s knowledge of Asian cuisine, particularly Korean cuisine, is minimal. She feels that other cooks are better at such delicacies than she is. She did, however, make kimchi, japchae, and bulgogi when she appeared on Lucky Chow with YouTube Korean chef Maangchi. Kish subsequently revealed in an interview that she never attempted those dishes again.

The American chef of Korean descent is one of the co-hosts of Netflix’s Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend. She previously competed on Iron Chef Showdown: Battle Beantown, when she beat Matt Jennings but lost to Jose Garces. Kish also won Top Chef Season 10, becoming just the second female chef to do so. She subsequently contrasted her Top Chef and Iron Chef experiences, claiming that the latter needed more preparation and rehearsal in one’s own kitchen with one’s own crew, while Top Chef forced participants to think on their feet.

Kristen Kish Cooking, her debut cookbook, was released in 2017. The following year, she collaborated with the Sydell company to create her first restaurant, Arlo Grey. Kish is also one of three chefs featured in TruTV’s Fast Foodies, a food competition that began in 2021.
