Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin was born on April 16, 1889. Charles and Hannah Chaplin gave birth to him. According to Charlie, he was born in South London on East Street. Charlie’s parents were musicians and music hall entertainers.
The parents were estranged in the year 1891. Charlie’s mother gave birth to another son in 1892. Charlie Chaplin’s life was not without difficulties! He was impoverished and faced a great deal of difficulty.
Charlie shared a home with his mother and his younger brother, Sydney. Hannah did not have a steady source of income, and her family was impoverished. Charles Chaplin, Sr. did not contribute financially. When things worsened, Charlie was sent to Lambeth Workhouse. He had only been seven years old!
Hannah was admitted to a mental asylum in 1898. During this time, Sydney and Charlie moved in with their father, who was suffering from alcoholism. Chaplin Sr. died two years later, and Hannah became ill every time she returned from the asylum.
