Landry grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is the fifth and youngest child of his parents. According to Landry, he played only seven minutes in his senior season, so early in his career, he realized early on that he wouldn’t be playing in the NBA and getting paid to do so. That’s when the idea for the Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux beer came to me. While traveling the world as a member of the LSU basketball team, he and his teammate Jack Warner saw a need for something that could take Louisiana, athletics, and their story top.
They started scribbling on bev sheets on their way home from the game against the University of Tennessee. When they returned to LSU, they discussed their proposal with the business professor, who completed his business plan assignment every year. They just thought of a place where they could sell burgers and sell beer and make a living, so they started working at restaurants. They started developing business strategies and enlisted the help of several investors. Six banks declined loans, but they continued to play with a walking mindset. On the seventh attempt, they succeeded in getting a loan. Walk-On began franchising in 2014 and has 75 locations in 13 states.
