Career
Michael and Ridgeley created the duet Wham! in 1981 after years of performing in numerous music ensembles, most notably The Executive. Ridgeley played guitar and provided backup vocals for Michael, who was the main performer and primary lyricist. They contacted several record companies with a handmade demo tape—which they recorded in Ridgeley’s living room in 10 minutes—and signed with Innervision Records (distributed by CBS Records). The pair joined Epic Records/CB after one album.
