Bruce Bochy’s parents, Gus and Melrose Bochy

Bruce Bochy, the four-time World Series champion, was born on April 16, 1955, in France, where there was a US airfield. His parents, Gus and Melrose, were instrumental in defining his life. Bruce’s father, Sergeant Major Gus Bochy, was stationed at a US air base in France. His childhood, in West Virginia’s coal fields, had been tragic. Gus, motivated by a desire to avoid a similar destiny, selected a different route, committing himself to a military career.
