“White House Christmas” Is Set To Be Released On HGTV

HGTV’s annual holiday show, White House Christmas, will present the House of the People in all its seasonal splendor. First Lady Jill Biden will join the show and take the hosts on a tour of the White House decorated by more than 150 volunteers.

According to HGTV’s press release,

“We the People,” this year’s theme, “will reflect the spirit of America’s shared ideals and belief in potential, optimism, and unity — a reminder that we are stronger together than apart.”

It continues:

“Over 83,615 holiday lights, 77 Christmas trees, 300 candles, 12,000 ornaments, 1,600 bells, nearly 14,865 sets of ribbons and more decorations that can be duplicated directly at home” will make this concept a reality. Christmas at the White House premieres on HGTV on Sunday, December 11, at 6 p.m. ET and on Discovery+ that same day.

What to expect at the White House Christmas 2022

On December 11, HGTV will be filming its annual Christmas special, starring actress Zooey Deschanel and TV personality Jonathan Scott at People’s House to depict what it looks like during the holiday season. This year’s theme is ‘We the People’ and the White House will highlight what the nation stands for and its rich past.

Scott told The Hills in an interview:

“Everyone, myself included, is represented, no matter where they are geographically located. I just became an American citizen, so being able to enjoy the rich history that America has to offer means a lot to me; This is an exciting day.”

This year’s Christmas at the White House has more than 83,600 lights, 25 wreaths and 77 Christmas trees, expected to welcome more than 50,000 visitors during the holiday season. The famous White House gingerbread maker will also be on display, with 20 sheets of sugar cookie dough, 30 sheets of gingerbread dough and 30 pounds of chocolate. Additionally, a sugar cookie replica of Philadelphia’s Independence Hall was built for 2022.

The State Dining Room will display Christmas decorations with self-portraits of the 2021 Teachers of the Year from around the country. Likewise, to honor deceased service members and their families, the East Wing will display Christmas trees with mirrored gold star decorations imprinted with their names.

White Mansion Christmas will also include a menorah made from wood taken from the house during Truman-era refurbishment. The hosts, on the other hand, will do more than simply look around. A behind-the-scenes episode will include Scott decorating the official White House Christmas Tree as Zooey decorates the hallways and completes Gingerbread House. According to Jane Latman, head of streaming and food and home content at Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc., the show has been on the air for nearly two decades, and it celebrates the “effort and miracle” of decorating the White House.
