Wesley Nicholson obituary: Erin and Robert Nicholson’s son passes away in Delaware

Wilmington, Delaware, is overcome with grief as it remembers the sudden passing of Wesley Nicholson, affectionately known as “Wes,” the beloved son of Erin and Robert Nicholson. Wesley’s unexpected departure on September 24th, 2023, has left his family and community in shock, with no reported cause of death at the time of this publication. Thoughts and prayers pour in for his friends and family as they navigate this challenging time.

Wesley, born in Newark, Delaware, to his proud parents Erin and Robert Nicholson, embraced life with an infectious smile and a heart overflowing with affection from day one. His joy was found in life’s simplest pleasures—strolls to the park, spirited runs wherever his feet carried him, and ensuring the well-being of his sister. He would enthusiastically explore every fire truck during visits to his father’s workplace, radiating boundless curiosity and enthusiasm.

What set Wesley apart was his remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Wherever he ventured, he made friends effortlessly. He cherished his outings to the Brandywine Zoo and his visits to what he affectionately called the “Dinosaur Museum” (the Delaware Museum of Nature and Science), where he delved into the captivating world of animals—a passion that held a special place in his heart.

To support Wesley’s family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe page was established by Crissy Finch, a longtime Wilmington resident. The page, titled “Wesley Nicholson,” has already raised $30,211 USD of its $40,000 goal. Crissy expressed that the funds collected through this effort will go towards the funeral expenses, allowing the family to focus on their healing without added financial burdens.

“Countless people have asked what they can do to help, and this is it. Right now, they need to be able to concentrate on nothing else aside from their healing. Work should be the last of their concerns. Any help would be so very appreciated, and if you can’t donate, please share,” urged Crissy.

Wesley is also survived by his sister, Lilah Jane, lovingly referred to as “May May,” his paternal grandparents, Robert D. Nicholson and Kimberly Edwards, his maternal grandmother, Claire Stevens, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends and well-wishers will have the opportunity to pay their respects on Thursday, September 28th, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, located at 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. A service will follow at noon, with the burial taking place at All Saints Cemetery. Wesley Nicholson’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
