We Have a Spirit will be available on Netflix on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 3 a.m. ET. The 127-minute family story is produced by Marty Bowen and Dan Halsted under Legendary Entertainment and Temple Hill Entertainment. We Have a Ghost’s team includes notable figures such as David Harbor, Anthony Mackie, Tig Notaro and Jennifer Coolidge, among many others. This is David Harbor and Anthony Mackie’s first major film in 2023. Meanwhile, it’s Coolidge’s second after Shotgun Wedding, in which she plays Josh Duhamel’s Tom Fowler’s mother.
Christopher Landon, known for directing the horror film Happy Death Day and its sequel, as well as Freaky, has been appointed director of We Have a Spirit. The upcoming comedy-drama is inspired by a short story released in 2017.
Where was the scene of We Have a Phantom filmed?
Filming for the upcoming film is said to have begun in July 2021 in Louisiana, with primetime shooting starting a month later. However, the plan was shelved a few weeks later due to the effects of Hurricane Ida in Louisiana. After things returned to normal in October 2021, the cast and crew traveled to the Louisiana towns of Donaldsonville and New Orleans for filming. They finished filming in just one month. We Have a Spirit was filmed at Ascension Parish, the Lemann Memorial Center at 1100 Clay Street, Railroad Avenue, and the area around Mississippi Street. All of these are in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. They set up camp in New Orleans to shoot some key scenes both indoors and outdoors.
What can we expect from the upcoming family horror comedy?
As said before, the picture is influenced by a short story. Ernest was written by Geoff Manaugh, an independent journalist living in Los Angeles and published by VICE in October 2017. Ernest, written by Landon, is “a really refreshing ghost story and something I haven’t seen yet. seen before.” He went on to say that We Have a Spirit is about an extremely troubled family that moves into a cursed house. Instead of dreading the apparition, they “duplicated” and set up a YouTube account, making the family famous online.
Meanwhile, according to the summary:
“After discovering that their new home was haunted by a spirit named Ernest, Kevin set up a YouTube account and made the ghost and his family famous on the Internet. When Kevin and Ernest begin to uncover the truth about Ernest’s background, they become targets of the CIA.”
The teaser for We Have a Presence, released last month, shows the same thing. The part about the CIA, led by Dr. Leslie Monroe, Tig Notaro’s government employee, was shown less often. The standout performance is undoubtedly Harbor’s dialogue-free performance as the soul and his quirky relationship with Kevin, a student.
