Waterloo Paramedic Troy MacRae from Kitchener passes away unexpectedly

Kitchener, Ontario – The Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services is grieving the loss of Troy MacRae, a dedicated member of their team, who passed away unexpectedly on December 7, 2023, at the age of 37. His untimely death was confirmed on Monday, leaving family, colleagues, and the community in shock. The cause of Troy MacRae’s passing has not been disclosed as of now.

Troy MacRae’s life journey began on October 27, 1986, in London, Ontario, as the youngest child of John David MacRae and Anne Barbro Normann. His upbringing in Carlisle, Ontario, provided a loving foundation for his formative years. During his time at Waterdown District High School, Troy’s passion for hockey shone through, a passion he continued at the University of Waterloo, where he pursued a degree in Kinesiology while also contributing as a trainer for the varsity hockey team.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Troy sought further education at Conestoga College, where he discovered his calling as a paramedic. His commitment to serving the community led him to proudly join the Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services, where he made a profound impact through his dedicated service.

Troy MacRae is survived by his mother, Barbro Normann; sisters Tonja MacRae, Cara MacRae (Jason McConnery), and Elin MacRae (Evan Gwartz); his grandmother, Jean M. MacRae; aunt, Jeannie MacRae; numerous Norwegian relatives; cousins Jaclyn MacRae (David Ferreira), John MacRae (Anna Czyrny), Ann Galatiuk (Derrick McCutcheon), and many others. He was a devoted father to his son, Tavin John MacRae, and a committed co-parent to his ex-wife, Glynnis Marie Pardo.

A memorial service to honor Troy’s life will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Henry Walser Funeral Home (507 Frederick St, Kitchener ON N2B 2A5), followed by a Celebration of Life. In remembrance of Troy, donations can be made to “Wounded Warriors Canada” in support of their meaningful cause.
