Zaitsev was born in Ivanovo on March 2, 1938, to Mikhail Yakovlevich Zaitsev and Maria Ivanovna Zaitseva. His father was a victim of Joseph Stalin’s repression and was imprisoned in one of Stalin’s camps, while his mother worked as a cleaner and a laundromat. He attended high school number 22 Ivanovo from 1945 to 1952.[4] Zaitsev was denied admission to industrial academies, theater schools and pilot schools because his father was considered an enemy of the people by the state.
In 1952, he began his studies at the University of Chemistry and Technology in the Faculty of Applied Arts of Ivanovo, where he became interested in manufacturing and obtained a degree to become a textile craftsman. In 1956, he graduated with honors from university. Career

Zaitsev died of gastrointestinal bleeding at the Shchyolkovo city hospital on April 30, 2023, at the age of 85. Before that, he suffered from Parkinson’s disease which left him largely paralyzed and reduced his ability to communicate and move.
