Virginia football player Perris Jones regains movement after hard hit against Louisville

During Thursday night’s intense matchup against Louisville, the Virginia football community was struck with concern as running back Perris Jones endured a helmet-to-helmet hit late in the third quarter. The distressing incident resulted in Jones being taken off the field on a stretcher and subsequently transported to the hospital for admission.

The critical moment unfolded as Jones, in possession of a swing pass, advanced up the field before encountering a forceful helmet-to-helmet collision. The impact led to a fumble, and Jones collided with several Louisville players. Given the proximity to the Louisville sideline, the team’s trainers quickly rushed to provide immediate assistance.

Despite Virginia receiver Malik Washington recovering the fumble and scoring a touchdown, the focus remained on Jones, surrounded by officials from both teams. Virginia players, visibly shaken, took a knee, and spectators watched in stunned silence.

Dave Walls posted on Facebook,

“FANTASTIC news for Virginia Football running back Perris Jones. UVa sports staff tells me Jones has regained movement in ALL his extremities, after his injury in Thursday’s loss at #11 Louisville.Jones was injured while being tackled after a catch and run in the third quarter. He was taken to the University of Louisville Medical Center, and will remain there overnight for evaulation. “

The gravity of the situation intensified as Jones, who shares a room with fellow running back Mike Hollins, was placed on a cart, rendering him completely immobile. Hollins, having survived a November shooting that claimed the lives of three teammates, including Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry, was among those who approached the cart before it sped away. Perry’s number 41 was visibly displayed on the white tape Hollins wears on the back of his arms.
