Former University of Oklahoma standout, Ryan Minor, known for his excellence in basketball and baseball, faced a challenging battle against stage 4 colon cancer. Excelling from 1993 to 1995, he shone brightly in both college sports. In basketball, Ryan, an All-American, led the Big Eight Conference in points per game twice and was hailed as Big Eight Co-Player of the Year in 1995. His prowess extended to baseball, where he played a pivotal role in the Sooners’ 1994 College World Series victory.
Drafted by both the NBA and Major League Baseball, Ryan had a memorable stint in the Majors, notably starting ahead of the legendary Cal Ripken Jr., ending his streak of consecutive games played. Post-retirement, Ryan ventured into coaching baseball professionally from 2006 to 2021.
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Ryan Minor. He is one of if not the greatest 2 sport athletes to ever don the crimson and cream. All of our hearts are broken tonight for the Minor family and we continue to keep them in our prayers. Rest in Paradise. pic.twitter.com/J2MhantL82

Ryan, alongside his wife Allyson and their children Regan and Finley, faced the financial challenges of his medical journey, prompting the family to create a GoFundMe page for support.
In the words of a family member, Ryan was more than an athletic icon; he was a husband, a devoted father, a guiding mentor, and a cherished friend to numerous baseball players in the minor and major leagues.
Tragically, Ryan succumbed to his battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy that extended far beyond his athletic achievements. Details regarding Ryan Minor’s obituary and funeral arrangements will be provided by the family in due course.
