New Paltz – The New Paltz community is in mourning after the sudden and tragic passing of 21-year-old Rory Domitrovits over the weekend. Rory, a beloved son of Mike and Nancy Domitrovits, met with an untimely demise in a heartbreaking hit-and-run incident on Saturday, October 28, in the 700 block of Eastwood Road, as confirmed by Anita Domitrovits Cunniff, a Principal Real Estate Broker, on Monday, October 30, 2023.
The Wilmington Police Department reported discovering a man in his twenties with severe injuries during the early hours of Saturday. Despite immediate efforts, Rory, also known as McGroary “Rory” John Domitrovits, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Rory was a student at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW).
The authorities swiftly took action, leading to the arrest of 22-year-old Hailey Sigg in connection with the crash. Sigg has been charged with DWI, felony hit and run, and felony death by vehicle. During the court hearing, the state requested a $1 million bond; however, the judge set the bond at $625,000, citing reasons related to her charges.

If Sigg is able to post bail, she will be placed under house arrest, required to wear a SCRAM bracelet and ankle monitor, undergo regular drug screenings, and face restrictions prohibiting her from working at establishments serving alcohol, including the restaurant where she was previously employed.
The New Paltz community, along with Rory’s family and friends, are left in shock and grief, mourning the loss of a young life in such a tragic manner. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, seeking justice for Rory Domitrovits and his grieving loved ones.
