Ty Okada’s parents, Chris and Michelle Okada, are Minnesota natives. The husband and wife produced two athletic boys, one of whom is on the verge of making his NFL debut. Ty Okada, a 24-year-old Seattle Seahawks player, entered Montana State in 2017. The safety spent six seasons at Montana, where he was named Second Team All-Big Sky in his senior year.
Okada was a multi-sport athlete in high school, participating in both wrestling and baseball. He was the district offensive player of the year as a quarterback and received all-conference honors in the other two sports. Ty took his time adjusting to Montana. But in the end, he discovered it. Chris Okada, a Minnesota State University alumnus, studied business administration with a focus on marketing and finance. He excelled not just academically, but also as a swimmer.
Chris played football at Minnesota, but after graduation, he decided to put his athletic career on hold. In 1995, he entered the business sector as a loan officer. After three years as a loan officer, Chris joined Philip Morris International as their area sales manager. After five years in the same role, Chris decided it was time to start his own company. He founded Insight Mortgage Consultants and served as President for the next five years until joining Wealth Enhancement Group in 2008. This was Chris’ first job with the organization.
Chris accepted a job offer from Wells Fargo in 2010. He started as the company’s Loan Servicing Supervisor and was promoted to Loan Administration Manager after two years. Chris returned to Wealth Enhancement Group in 2015 and was promoted to Vice President in 2020. Despite rapidly ascending the business ladder, Chris never forgot his passion for athletics. He reportedly coaches a high school boy’s lacrosse team and has previously coached Ty’s football teams. Ty’s mother, Michelle Okada, graduated from Concordia University.
She went on to get her master’s degree in public administration from Hamline University in 2008. Michelle has worked for the city of Woodbury since 1996. She has been the Parks and Recreation Director since 2018. Michelle and Chris, a husband and wife combination, have a shared Facebook account that isn’t extremely active. They also have their own Instagram handles, but they keep them hidden.

The surname of the NFL athlete has confused fans. The surname “Okada” has Japanese origins, however, Ty has never revealed if his family has any Japanese ancestry. He was born and reared in Woodbury, Minnesota, and graduated from East Ridge High School. He eventually enrolled at Montana State University and played football for six seasons. Ty wrestled before focusing on football in college. His elder brother, MJ Okada, was also a wrestler but eventually left up athletics. In 2019, MJ graduated from the University of North Dakota with an aeronautics degree. Following graduation, MJ joined the UND Aerospace Foundation as its main flying instructor.
In 2021, he joined SkyWest Airlines and served as their Airline Pilot for a year. In 2022, he was promoted to become their pilot recruiter. He joined United Airlines earlier this year and now serves as their First Officer.
