Tusky Valley, Katelyn Owens, John Mosely and four others killed in Bus Accident

A devastating accident unfolded on an Ohio highway when a semitruck collided with a charter bus carrying high school students. The crash resulted in the loss of six lives and left at least 18 others injured. Among those who tragically passed away were 18-year-old John (Wyatt) Mosely, 18-year-old Jeffery JD Worrell, and 15-year-old Katelyn Owens. The heartbreaking incident also claimed the lives of 56-year-old Dave Kennat, 39-year-old Kristy Gaynor, and 45-year-old Shannon Wigfield.

The collision occurred near the Smoke Road underpass on Interstate 70 West in Licking County, close to 9:00 a.m. The exact cause of the accident remains undisclosed at this time. Reports indicate that the charter bus was transporting students from an eastern Ohio school, with a total of 57 individuals on board, according to Sean Grady, the director of the Licking County Emergency Management Agency.

The students from Tuscarawas Valley were en route, accompanied by chaperones, to the Ohio School Boards Association conference in Columbus, situated approximately 100 miles west. Derek Varansky, superintendent of the Tuscarawas Valley School District, confirmed this information.

The victims were remembered fondly for their roles and personalities within the school community. Katelyn Owens, a dedicated sophomore known for her hard work; Kristy Gaynor, a beloved band chaperone known for her kindness; John Wyatt Mosley, a vibrant senior involved in music and drama; JD Worrell, an active senior engaged in various school activities; Dave Kennat, a math teacher known for his passion and respect; and Shannon Wigfield, a member of the school staff.

The loss of these individuals has deeply impacted the school community, prompting an outpouring of grief and support from all corners.
