Trugoy the Dove, a famous rapper and De La Soul member, has died at the age of 54. On social media, several celebrities paid tribute to Trugoy, alias David Jolicoeur. On Facebook, comedian Eric Schwartz posted a photo of David with the caption:
“For years, De La Soul fought to get the rights to their songs back. Trugoy the Dove, nicknamed Dave, died just like them. De La Soul was a creative force that revolutionized people’s perception of what “rap” could be. A great pioneer and icon. Thank you very much, Plug 2.
Quest Green, a motivational speaker, also shared her sadness on Facebook, writing:
“Dude… I’m heartbroken over the loss of another dear brother. David Jode Jolicoeur, nicknamed Plug Two, or Trugoy the Dove of De La Soul… Thank you for the music, but so much more for the memories. #delaforlife #dematlantadayzandnights.”
Although the cause of his death has not been confirmed, Trugoy has previously talked about his health problems, especially congestive heart failure.
In the Royal Cloak music video from 2017, Trugoy the Dove discusses his health struggles.
Trugoy has been battling congestive heart disease for a long time, which has hampered his career by forcing him to miss most of his De La Soul concerts. Trugoy discussed his heart failure in the music video for De La Soul’s debut hit, Royal Cloak, in 2017.
David appeared in the film at his home in suburban Maryland, where he talked about his life and what it felt like to live with a vest that protected him from congestive heart failure. David described the life jacket in the video as a mechanism that would shock him and bring him “back from the matrix”. He added that he is eager to get back on stage and that he misses traveling and performing.
