Ottumwa community mourns the loss of Ryder James Bradley, a vibrant 16-year-old whose life was tragically cut short on August 17, 2023, in a devastating ATV accident near Oskaloosa.
Born on September 27, 2006, Ryder James Bradley was a cherished child of Shane Patrick and Desiree Nicole Harbour Bradley. Despite his young age, Ryder had already left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He was on the brink of entering his Junior year at Ottumwa High School, where he excelled as a diligent student. Ryder’s academic pursuits led him to honors classes and participation in the Talented and Gifted program, showcasing his intellectual curiosity and dedication.
Beyond the classroom, Ryder found joy in an array of activities. From bowling in his younger years to building computers and fishing, he approached life with enthusiasm and a thirst for exploration. His passion for life illuminated his interactions with friends and family, creating treasured memories that will forever be held close.
Ryder’s community involvement was also notable. He worked at South Hy-Vee and was a member of the Bridge Church, demonstrating his dedication to both his work and his faith. His vibrant spirit, coupled with his caring nature, made him a beloved presence in the lives of those around him.
Tragedy struck on August 17, 2023, as Ryder’s promising journey was abruptly halted by a devastating ATV accident near Oskaloosa. Despite immediate response and efforts, Ryder’s injuries proved insurmountable, leaving a void that words cannot adequately express.
He leaves behind a family who cherished him deeply: his parents, Shane and Desiree Bradley; his sister, Jasmine Bowermaster; his grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ryder’s impact resonates within his community, reminding everyone of the fragility of life and the importance of safety.
A visitation to honor Ryder Bradley’s memory will take place on Sunday, August 27th, at Reece Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a special family greeting from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The celebration of his life is scheduled for Monday, August 28th, at 10 a.m., also at Reece Funeral Home, followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Heartland Humane Society or the Ottumwa Youth Bowling League, a reflection of Ryder’s compassion and dedication to his community.
