Tragic Incident Shakes Painesville: Kayleigh Hustosky’s suicide after shooting Police Officer husband

In a deeply distressing incident that unfolded in Painesville in 2018, 29-year-old Kayleigh Hustosky tragically took her own life after shooting her husband, 27-year-old police officer Dylan Hustosky. The incident occurred at their residence in the 100 block of Cedarbrook Drive, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to Painesville Police Chief Daniel Waterman, Kayleigh shot Dylan twice in his left arm before he managed to escape the house. Dylan, a member of the Gates Mills Police Department’s patrol section since 2014, promptly called the police. He was discovered near Heritage Middle School’s parking lot, having successfully fled from the scene of the shooting.

Surprisingly, authorities confirmed that Dylan did not use his service weapon during the incident. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and details regarding the type of firearm used have not been disclosed.

Law enforcement had not received any prior domestic violence calls from the couple’s residence, according to Chief Waterman. Dylan was initially taken to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township before being transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he underwent surgery on Tuesday afternoon.

Upon arrival at the scene, Kayleigh refused to communicate with the police or leave the residence, where she was trapped with their three-year-old son and a dog. Concerned for the safety of everyone involved, Painesville police sought assistance from Lake County SWAT. The child, fortunately, was staying with a relative in Stow during the incident, and the family dog emerged unharmed.

To ensure everyone’s safety, law enforcement utilized robots and drones to enter the house. Tragically, they found Kayleigh Hustosky upstairs with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at 7:42 p.m. An autopsy was conducted after her body was transferred to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
