Tomasz OleszakDeath of Tomasz Oleszak, stabbed by Leighton Amies

Tomasz Oleszak, 14, was stabbed in Gateshead, and a teenager was found guilty of murder. Tomasz Oleszak was attacked in October and died the next day from an 8cm deep cut in his chest.

Leighton Amies, now 15, but was 14 at the time, testified that he accidentally stabbed Tomasz during a gang attack. A jury at Newcastle Crown Court found him guilty of murder and attempted serious injury to another child with his coat slashed.

The killer, who did not know Tomasz and lived in another part of Tyneside, testified that he killed him with a serrated steak knife on October 3.

The death of Tomasz Oleszak

Leighton Amies stole a serrated knife from his mother’s kitchen on October 3 last year. At his trial, the 14-year-old admitted to taking silver utensils from the drain plate and putting it on to keep him warm when he stepped outside on an overcast autumn evening. A 14-year-old boy was killed by a teenager in a knife attack. Prosecutor Mark McKone questioned him at Newcastle Crown Court about what.

According to a pathologist, three hours after Amies left, the knife stabbed Tomasz in the chest with “moderate force”. Because he was from another part of Tyneside, he was not familiar with Tomasz or the Springwell neighborhood. Amies stopped on her way home from dance class to meet a friend, a 14-year-old girl. He testified that after the young couple was followed into the park, up to five children attacked him.

Leighton Amies stabbed 14-year-old Tomasz Oleszak

He had been to Springwell to meet a 14-year-old girl and was walking home through Whitehills Nature Park when she told him about a group of teenagers following them. Amies testified that he was punched, kicked and wrestled to the ground before pulling out the knife, but prosecutors allege he lied about being attacked. After the fatal blow, the killer shouted to the group, “I’ve wet your boy,” the court said.

Prosecutor Mark McKone KC told the jury, “He wanted them to know that he stabbed one of them.” “It was just a brag.” Mr McKone claimed that while the gang was not “innocent” as they claimed to have beaten Amies, he was the “aggressor” and the only injury he suffered was a minor injury to his thumb. According to defense attorney Peter Makepeace KC, his client “indiscriminately acted in self-defense.” The jury learned that Amies had hidden the knife in the bushes before texting a friend that he wanted it to “melt”.

According to an earlier police statement, Tomasz’s mother, Kamila, and father, Patryk, as well as Tomasz’s six-year-old brother, were “indescribably devastated” by the boy’s death.
