Legendary TV host Tom Brokaw is speaking out about his difficult choice to leave NBC News after being diagnosed with incurable blood cancer.
Brokaw talked about how difficult it was to leave NBC in 2021, eight years after he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, in an interview with journalist Jane Pauley, longtime friend and colleague going appeared this weekend on CBS News Sunday Morning.
In a preview video posted on Friday, Brokaw, 83, said: “I had to change my life in some way.” “I literally had to stop working with NBC every day. You see, they’re leaving me, so I have to do the same. Simply put, I am a different person.

In his interview with Pauley, Brokaw discusses how his diagnosis has made him humble. He admitted: “I had a lot of difficulties. “I used to think that I was impervious to the hardships of life. But as I got older, this problem got worse. But as I got older, this situation became a reality. The key is to manage it as best as possible.
From 1976 to 1981, Brokaw and Pauley co-hosted the morning show Today on NBC. They chatted as Brokaw published his autobiography Never Give Up: A Prairie Family’s Story, in tribute to his diligent parents.
