Renowned musician Tim Commerford recently spoke to Spin magazine on December 12, revealing his prostate cancer diagnosis. He revealed that his prostate had been removed prior to his previous tour, as he talked about his experience with the condition.
Commerford stated:
“Prostate cancer is a very, very, very frustrating disease because it’s tied to your sexuality. It’s hard to get out of that and when you’re put in that situation, it’s a painful psychological ride. I tried to find support groups and it was hard to find people and hard to talk about.”
The Rage Against the Machine member never intended to announce his prostate cancer diagnosis, and only his bandmates know about it. He chose not to hide anything after discovering that Andy Taylor was unable to attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame awards ceremony after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Tim Commerford credits former road cyclist Lance Armstrong as an inspiration to him and claims that he also recommends several ways he can manage his illness.
What is prostate cancer? Symptoms and causes
As the name suggests, prostate cancer affects the prostate gland, where the disease develops. However, it cannot lead to any significant consequences. The most common symptoms are problems urinating, decreased force in the urine stream, blood in the urine and semen, bone pain, weight loss, and erectile dysfunction. The cause of prostate cancer is currently under investigation.
This disease is common in people over the age of 50. It can affect people with a family history of the disease, and those who are obese are at high risk. It can lead to complications including spread of cancer to other body areas, urinary incontinence, and erectile dysfunction. Prostate cancer can be avoided with a number of steps including eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, exercising daily, keeping a healthy weight, and consulting a doctor if at risk.
Tim Commerford founded new company with Mathias Wakrat and Jonny Polonsky
Tim Commerford joined drummer Mathias Wakrat and guitarist Jonny Polonsky last month, and they formed a new ensemble, 7D7D. Their debut hit was called Capitalism. The revelation comes after Race Against the Machine postponed their upcoming tour in North America next year. The decision was made when Zack de la Rocha suffered a leg injury. The band revealed the news on social media, explaining that Zack had torn his Achilles tendon. All individuals who purchased tickets for the event were refunded immediately. Zack’s injury also caused a few other events to be canceled earlier this year.
