Fans of the hit reality TV series “Huntsville Love and Marriage” are well aware of Tiffany Whitlow’s tendency to stir things up and cause controversy. However, little is known about the tireless effort Whitlow undertakes behind the scenes to address health inequities affecting the Black community.
OWN star is more than simply a wife and a reality star; She recently welcomed her first child with husband Louis Whitlow. Whitlow is also the co-founder of NOWINCLUDED, an online platform and mobile app that provides the Black community with a safe place to share knowledge, learn about disparities in healthcare and pass on that knowledge to others.
Whitlow opened in an exclusive interview with BLACK ENTERPRISE about how her experience as a teen mother inspired her to co-found the business and how she uses the platform to fight for Black maternal health and better access to health care for Black patients.
I was adopted into a mixed family at a very young age. I was adopted by my biological mother because of the color of my skin. Making informed health care decisions was very important to me as I grew up, but I was unable to do so because I was unfamiliar with my family history.
At 19, I became a mother, which changed the way I make health care decisions. Now, in addition to making decisions for myself, I also have to make decisions for my children, who depend on me. I have to make sure I’m making informed choices. Asthma was identified in my hospitalized son.
