Cahokia Heights, IL – In a devastating turn of events, the Cahokia Heights Police Department is investigating a heartbreaking incident, suspected to be a murder-suicide, after discovering a woman and a man shot inside a car near Frank Holten State Recreation Area on Tuesday.
The deceased woman, Tiera Glasper, 40, from Belleville, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man, whose identity is yet to be disclosed officially due to jurisdictional reasons, was rushed to a St. Louis hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Described as a case of domestic violence by Cahokia Heights Police Maj. Tony Tomlinson, officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash near Robert L. Price Road and Park Drive, only to find the victims inside the car off the roadway, surrounded by a distressing crime scene.
The loss of Tiera Pawnell-Glasper has deeply affected her family, with Skyla Pawnell reminiscing about her cousin’s loving nature, highlighting Tiera as a dedicated mother and recently a proud grandmother. Edna Pawnell echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Tiera’s humility and passion for caring for children.
The police investigation, involving discussions with family members and witnesses, was termed a tragic incident by Detective Jamal Jackson, acknowledging the heartache endured by both families.
Records show prior domestic disturbance calls concerning the couple, adding a troubling layer to this tragic situation.

Skyla Pawnell, enduring multiple losses, including her son to gun violence in 2018, has since been an advocate against crime, fostering support for those experiencing similar anguish.
As the family grapples with the unexpected loss and the absence of life insurance for Glasper, they have initiated a fundraising effort for funeral arrangements, urging support through a GoFundMe page. Sharnik Ingram is organising this fundraiser. It is aiming to raise $15,000.
It is stated on GoFundMe page, “Hello, my name is Sharnik Ingram, yesterday my sister husband killed her & then hisself. They left behind 3 kids & a new granddaughter. Unfortunately Tiera didn’t have life insurance, so I’m reaching out for help to make the proper arrangements to send her home. Anything will help. Thanks in advance.”
