Thulani Dlomo’s career
Since the age of 13, Thulani has been involved in South African politics. He was an ANC member who fought for independence and was exiled. When he started serving as Director of the State Security Service in 2012, he quickly rose to prominence in the public eye. In 2014, he was appointed Deputy General Director of SSA.
Thulani Dlomo’s SSA career was plagued by many scandals. Van Loggerenberg and Pillay’s positions at the South African Internal Revenue Service (SARS) are said to have been removed due to his alleged use of South African intelligence to engage in dirty politics. In addition, the SSA is also charged with conspiring to sabotage former finance minister Pravin Gordhan, organizing a fake labor union and financial theft while he was in office.
In 2017, former president Jacob Zuma selected Thulani Dhlomo as South Africa’s ambassador to Japan. His term as ambassador ended in January 2019 when President Cyril Ramaphosa, who had just taken office, ordered his removal from office. He has remained silent since his recall, taking the nickname Thulani Silent Dlomo. When he stopped working, the SSA decided to fire him.
