Terry Stumpf Obituary: Founder of Stumpf Construction Services passes away at 71

Riverside, Iowa – Terry Joseph Stumpf, aged 71, of Riverside, passed away on September 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. He was born on February 16, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, to Robert “Red” Joseph and Rita Frances (Thomann) Stumpf. Terry graduated from Mid Prairie High School in 1970 and married Mary Jane Kron on December 11, 1971, at St. Mary’s Church in Riverside.

Terry dedicated his career to construction, founding Stumpf Construction Inc. in 1976 alongside his father. He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, and boating. He cherished spending time with family and friends at Goose Bottom cabin and had a love for repairing tractors, boats, and cars. Terry was known for his sense of humor and clever pranks, delighting in spending time with his grandkids.

Active in the Riverside community, Terry volunteered his time and skills to various organizations, leaving a lasting impact. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary Jane Stumpf, and his children: Jill (Jeffrey) Burrows, Chad (April) Stumpf, and Jody (Eric) Fisher. He leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Kyla Burrows, Tate Stumpf, Quinn Stumpf, Madilyn Stumpf, Riley Fisher, Clara Fisher, Griffin Fisher, and the memory of his late grandson, Trevor Burrows.

Terry is survived by his siblings: Randy (Betty) Stumpf, Nancy (Jim) Flynn, Beverly (Bob) Miller, Nick (Sue) Stumpf, Tim (Kris) Stumpf, Laurie (Randy) Sexton, Rod Stumpf, and Bonnie Stumpf. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Stumpf.

Services to remember and honor Terry Stumpf will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Holy Family Parish in Riverside, with visitation on October 2, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., and a Funeral Mass on October 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Following the services, a gathering for food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary’s Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Holy Family Parish or Riverside Emergency Services Association or a charity of choice in Terry’s memory.
