Susan Crow’s career
Susan made sure that schoolwork matched her career choices because from an early age she knew she wanted to be a teacher. Soon after meeting her future husband Tony for the first time, Susan developed a passion for philanthropy and helped found Art Exploration (ETA). Since its founding in 1999, the group has helped build more than 17 schools across the United States and advance art research.
Susan is in charge of the organization’s philanthropic efforts and serves as chairman of the board. Susan and Tony received the George Washington University Medal in 2010. Susan not only works for ETA, but also owns and operates a New York-based creative agency called Creative Artists Management.
Biography of Tony Bennett, her husband:
American artist, retired singer and Frank Sinatra School of the Arts founder Tony Bennett. Anthony Dominick Benedetto was born in Astoria, Queens, New York, on August 3, 1926. His parents were Italian immigrants John Benedetto and Anna Suraci.
Bennett, who grew up in poverty during the Great Depression, started singing at an early age to help support his family. He left high school and joined the United States Army to fight in World War II. He attended the American Theater Wing after the war and began playing in nightclubs all over New York City.
In 1949, Bob Hope asked Bennett to appear on his radio show after he learned about him. He then joined Columbia Records, and in 1951 he released “Because of You”, his first hit single. He had many songs over the next ten years, including “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” “Stranger in Paradise,” and “Rags to Riches,” which became his national anthem.
Bennett is a talented painter in addition to having a great musical career. He has exhibited his art in galleries around the world, including the Art Students League of New York.
The Frank Sinatra School of the Arts was founded by Bennett in Astoria, Queens, in 2001. The school is a public high school that provides students from all five boroughs of New York City with a specialized arts education.
Bennett has received various honors throughout his career, including the 2005 Kennedy Center Honors, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy, and 20 Grammy Awards. In addition, he was honored with a place in the International Jazz Hall of Fame.
