Conly Asher Chavers, a vibrant and beloved member of the Hammond, Louisiana community, passed away at the age of 19 on November 29, 2023, at North Oaks Medical Center. Born on March 31, 2004, in Hammond, Louisiana, Asher was the cherished son of Chris and Diedra C. Chavers.
Asher, a sophomore at Southeastern Louisiana University, touched the lives of many through his involvement in the First Baptist Church in Ponchatoula and his dedicated work as a dishwasher at Cate Street Seafood Station. Known for his vibrant humor and witty personality, Asher’s compassion for others was a defining trait. He held a deep affection for animals, especially birds, and his kind-hearted nature resonated with all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving parents, Chris and Diedra C. Chavers, his sister Sophia G. Chavers, grandmother Iris Cleveland, grandparents Reggie and Joette Chavers, grandfather Chris Johansen, along with aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his “Pop,” Starret Cleveland, grandmother Christine Johansen, and great-grandmother Dora Lee Chavers.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Monday, December 4, 2023, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (Central Time). A Funeral Service honoring Asher’s life will take place at the Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev Robert Parkin and Dr. David Cranford.
Following the service, Asher will be laid to rest at Rosaryville Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
