Solomon Ehigiator Arase (born June 21, 1956) is a retired Nigerian police officer. He is currently the Chairman of the Nigeria Police Service Commission. He was appointed President by President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2023. Arase also served as the 18th Inspector General of the Nigerian Police (IGP) after Suleiman Abba was fired. Prior to his appointment as IGP, Arase was the head of the Nigerian police’s highest intelligence collection unit, the Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department.

Story
Arase was born on June 21, 1956 in Owan West Local Government, Edo State in Southern Nigeria. He attended Ahmadu Bello University for his undergraduate studies and graduated with a degree in political science in 1980. He was recruited into the Nigerian Police a year later on December 1, 1981. He also took more a BA in Law from Benin University as well as a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos.
Career
While serving in the Police, Arase served in a variety of roles, including as a Police Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State as well as serving in the intelligence collection unit as an Assistant Inspector General. He is a member of the Nigerian Defense Academy and has served in Namibia in the United Nations peacekeeping operation.
Arase retired on June 21, 2016. On June 21, 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Ibrahim Kpotum Idris as Acting Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force. After retiring from Police service, Arase was appointed Chairman of the Task Force responsible for the enforcement of the state Anti-Community Development Association Law in Edo State.
Arase dedicates her post-retirement commitments to the practice of law, Security Consulting with organizations such as the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the European Electoral Assistance Center, the Center for Human Rights. at the University of Oslo, Public Speaking, Research and other Academic Activities. He is a member of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture, Geneva Switzerland which is currently developing a joint protocol on Investigative Techniques. On 24 January 2023, Arase was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as Chairman of the Nigeria Police Service Commission.

In October 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari conferred the title of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) at the national level of Nigeria.
