Spencerville, Ohio – The Spencerville community is in mourning as it bids farewell to Shayna Marie Russell, a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and cherished member of the community. Shayna passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the tender age of 19, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever be remembered.
Shayna was born on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, and was the treasured daughter of David Russell, Jr., and Nicole Smith of Spencerville. She is survived by her loving parents, as well as her siblings: Brooke Russell, Brodie Russell, Sawyer Stocklin, and Emery Goff. Her family extended beyond blood, as she is also survived by her stepsiblings: Xander Goff, Jacob Goff, Owen Goff, Eli Holsinger Jr., Tyler Holsinger, and Kelly Holsinger. Shayna’s memory is held dear by her maternal grandmother, Lisa Hakey, and her paternal grandparents, David & Yvonne Russell of Spencerville.
In addition to her immediate family, Shayna is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great-grandparents, and a host of beloved relatives and friends. She held a special place in the hearts of her childhood best friend, Leigha Shatzer, her boyfriend, Kyle Smith, and her Bonus Parents, Ethan Goff, and Jamie Jackson.
Shayna’s life was marked by her radiant personality and boundless love. She possessed a beauty that shone from within, and her captivating smile had the power to light up any room she entered. Shayna had an innate gift for caring for others and made sure everyone felt special in her presence. Her kindness was demonstrated through her thoughtful words, warm embraces, and the precious time she shared with loved ones.
Among Shayna’s many interests, she found joy in crafting, baking, doing her nails, and singing her heart out to Taylor Swift’s songs. She embraced modern technology with enthusiasm, frequently Snapchatting her friends and family to maintain close connections.
Shayna had an enduring love for animals and cherished moments spent with her beloved pets. Her family and friends held a special place in her heart, and she embraced every opportunity to create cherished memories with them.
A visitation to pay respects to Shayna will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Pastor Andrew J. Atkins will officiate the service, and Shayna will be laid to rest at Spencerville Cemetery following the ceremony.
In honor of Shayna’s memory, her family kindly requests that attendees wear the color yellow, as it held a special place in her heart. Shayna’s legacy of love and her radiant spirit will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her loved ones.
