Worcester, MA – The sudden and untimely passing of Shawn Marengo, a dedicated Estimator at Greenwood Industries, Inc., has left the hearts of many scarred. Shawn David Marengo, 31, passed away on Friday September 29, 2023 in a tragic car accident. He will forever be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him during the course of his life.
At the age of 31, Marengo, a native of Dudley, Massachusetts, had made Worcester his home until the time of his passing. Shawn was born on March 3, 1992 to Scott and Kristin (Fiske) Marengo in Worcester, MA. He was the middle child to 1 older brother and 1 younger sister. Shawn grew up in Dudley, MA and graduated from Shepherd Hill Regional High School in 2010. As a student, Shawn discovered his great love for music and performance. Playing the saxophone in middle school, he became an incredible self-taught guitar and piano player and was an extremely talented singer. Shawn will always be remembered for his enthusiastic performances for the Shepherd Hill Show Choirs where he was a pit band member for Illusion and a stage performer for Fantasy.
The Worcester community was shaken by the news of Marengo’s passing in a fiery single-vehicle crash on Interstate 395 in Oxford. On that fateful Friday night at 10 p.m., Massachusetts state troopers from the Sturbridge barracks responded to the crash involving a 1998 Jeep Wrangler SUV. The vehicle had tragically left the roadway, collided with a tree, and caught fire, claiming the life of Marengo, who was the operator of the Jeep.
Upon graduating high school, Shawn attended UMASS Lowell where he was a Music Performance major for 2 years. As a freshman, he began performing with the “Hawkapella” all men’s a capella group as well as playing the role of “Collins” in the musical “Rent”, one of his all-time favorite shows, in a memorable performance.
Following his time in Lowell, Shawn began working at Greenwood Industries of Worcester. In his time there, Shawn worked his way up from working in the warehouse as a delivery driver to becoming an Estimator, where Shawn’s knack for numbers allowed him to excel in his position.
Shawn was the life of the party and will be remembered for his vibrant personality, quick wit and his insanely kind heart and soul. Shawn was so loved and deserved nothing but the best that this world had to offer. Besides his love for life, Shawn was a member of Maple Hill Disc Golf and had a passion and gift for disc golf. In his younger years, Shawn was a talented hockey player with the Worcester Crusaders, Baystate Sharks and the Outlaws as well as a talent on the Shepherd Hill Varsity Lacrosse team, lacrosse travel team, and many other sports teams in town. His love for sports went beyond playing as he had a passion for the Boston Bruins, Red Soxs, Celtics and Patriots. He was a die-hard fan.
