Parma, Idaho, – and the wider community are grieving the loss of a true hero, Sean “Dawg” Hughes, a resident of Parma and a Former Deputy Sheriff at Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Sean Hughes passed away on October 28th, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 56 years old at the time of his death.
Born in Murphy, North Carolina, on May 15, 1967, Sean was the beloved son of Harry and Bivian Ledford Hughes. He was not just a good and caring person but also someone who never met a stranger and was always seen with a smile on his face. He cherished his connections with people and touched many lives with his generosity.
Sean’s love for sports, particularly football, was evident throughout his life. He was a dedicated Georgia football fan and played basketball in middle school. His passion for football led him to be part of the successful Union County High School football teams from 1984 to 1986. Sean’s dedication to service was also reflected in his time with the U.S. Army, where he served in the German military police and rose to the rank of Sergeant.
After his military service, Sean worked for the Hall County, Georgia, Sheriff’s Office for 17 years before relocating to the Boise, Idaho, region in 2007. He continued his commitment to helping others as a member of the Iron Warriors Motorcycle Club of Idaho, a community of law enforcement professionals dedicated to supporting their peers, both active and retired.

In 2014, Sean earned his B.S. in Social Studies Education from Boise State University, demonstrating his unwavering determination to learn and grow. Despite his battle with renal metastatic cancer, Sean remained resilient and continued to inspire those around him.
A public viewing will be held at 11:00 am, followed by funeral services at 12:00 pm on November 6, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Parma, Idaho. The community comes together to honor Sean “Dawg” Hughes, a man who exemplified bravery, kindness, and selflessness throughout his life.
