Scarlett Johansson, an American actress, spoke out about being “trained” as a teenager to look like a Hollywood “blockbuster” in an interview on Tuesday, December 13. The 38-year-old actress was featured in a podcast edition of Bruce Bozzi’s Table for Two, where she described how she was new to a certain profession.
“I was on Lose in Translation and Girl With the Pearl Earring and at the time I was 18, 19 years old and I was slowly showing my own femininity and realizing my own lust and sexuality. In some ways, I was prepared to be this kind of “bombshell” performer.
Johansson went on to say that she was suddenly surrounded and “couldn’t get out” because she was playing the role of “another woman” and “the object of desire.”
Scarlett Johansson’s management company has supported her to avoid the “bomb” route.
Scarlett Johansson said in the same interview that it was her agent, Bryan [Lourd] who helped her get out of that vicious circle.
“[Bryan] thrive on a collection of outstanding innovations and opportunities for individuals to do exciting work. And he just got it. It’s a strange and fascinating predicament to be involved in, but it all comes down to hard work and trying to make a place on different projects and working with great groups.
Johansson revealed that her Black Widow character in Iron Man 2 was initially “over-sexualized,” but she worked with the film’s director and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to make it more advanced. Johansson said on the Armchair Expert podcast in October 2022 that her relentless “superiorizing s*xualization” in the film business made her think her career was over.
“I am almost objectified and categorized in this way which makes me feel like I am not getting job offers for the things that I want to pursue. People think that I’ve grown up and [acting] in a long time. i thought [my career] was made. That’s the kind of career you’ve got, these are the sections you’ve played. And I thought, ‘Is this here?’”
Scarlett Johansson made her acting debut in 1994 as Laura Nelson in North. Just Cause, If Lucy Fell, The Horse Whisperer, The Man Who Wasn’t There, An American Rhapsody, A Love Song for Bobby Long, The Prestige, He’s Just Not That Into You, The Avengers, Avengers: Endgame, Marriage Story, and Black Widow are among her other roles. Her upcoming films include My Mother’s Wedding, Project Artemis and Asteroid City, according to her IMDb bio. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johansson will produce the upcoming Tower of Terror.
