Sara Monger obituary: Eastern Mennonite University student dies in accident in Elkton

The close-knit communities of Elkton and Harrisonburg, Virginia, are reeling from the devastating loss of 18-year-old Sara Monger, a brilliant student whose promising future was tragically cut short in a deadly car accident early Saturday morning. According to the Harrisonburg Police Department, the accident occurred in the 200 block of Vine Street, where Sara lost her life, and two others were injured in the single-vehicle crash.

The Harrisonburg Police Department received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 3:25 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, reporting a vehicle crash into a power pole on Vine Street. The driver, identified as Sara Monger, was declared deceased at the scene. Two passengers, an 18-year-old man from Aylett, Virginia, and an 18-year-old woman from Ruckersville, Virginia, sustained injuries. One passenger was flown to UVA Medical Center, while the other was taken to Sentara RMH. Their current conditions remain unknown at this time.

Harrisonburg Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the crash site to determine the cause. Speed has been identified as a contributing factor to the accident. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact Sgt. Wayne Westfall at 540-437-2672. The Harrisonburg Fire Department, Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, Rockingham Fire and Rescue, and the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office collaborated in the response efforts.
