The Warby community and cycling enthusiasts across Australia are mourning the loss of Sam Knight, the visionary founder of Jigsaw Jumps, who brought immense happiness to countless individuals. Sam Knight, a beloved member of the Warburton community in Victoria, Australia, was announced as having passed away by Jigsaw Jumps. As of now, no official information regarding the cause of Sam Knight’s passing has been made public. Sam leaves behind his partner Vicky and their young daughter, Hazel, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his grieving family.
Jigsaw Jumps released a heartfelt statement to commemorate the passing of their owner, Sam Knight:
“We are completely devastated and heartbroken to share the news that Jigsaw Jumps founder Sam Knight passed away this week. Sam was a much-loved father, partner, son, brother, uncle, and friend and an inspiration to so many. His enthusiasm for mountain biking was infectious, and the bike jumps he so lovingly created and built touched the lives of many. Sam made the world a much happier place, and his legacy will be remembered with every smile his jumps continue to put on the faces of bike riders young and old.”
Sam Knight emerged as the creative force behind the groundbreaking Australian cycling brand, Jigsaw Jumps. This venture came to life during the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic when the need for both entertainment and exercise during lockdowns inspired Sam to create his initial ‘backyard’ prototype in July 2020. This marked a significant step toward turning one of his many inventions into a tangible reality.
Driven by a lifelong passion for cycling, Sam’s concept revolved around crafting modular, portable ramps for bike enthusiasts. His homemade prototype jump quickly gained attention when he tested it in a local park, attracting curious kids who encouraged him to explore the possibilities of commercial production, capacity, and market demand.
In a bold leap of faith into the unknown, Sam bid farewell to his role as an environmental consultant in late 2020 and relocated to Warburton. This move allowed him to wholeheartedly dedicate himself to his entrepreneurial dream while immersing himself in the vibrant lifestyle, community, and cycling opportunities the region had to offer. Sam’s engagement with the incubator community proved invaluable, providing him with vital insights, connections, support, and mentorship.
Yarra Ranges Mountain Bikers shared the post on fb expressing sorrow on the death of Sam:
It is with immense sadness we share that a cherished member of our community, Sam Knight, passed away this week.
Sam, a local member of the warby community, brought a lot of happiness to a great deal around Australia through his brainchild, Jigsaw Jumps.
Sam leaves behind his partner Vicky and their young daughter, Hazel.
There is a fundraising page setup to help Vicky and Hazel with the uncertainty they’ll face. We know times are rather tough and not everyone has the means to assist Vicky and Hazel financially, however if you could skip a coffee or three, or perhaps reconsider those new handlebars you don’t absolutely need, we know Vicky and Hazel would greatly appreciate it. We’ll have the link on Facebook and in our Instagram bio.
Sam has left such a profoundly positive legacy on mountain biking and for that we will be forever grateful.
Sam took pride in adopting a ‘locally sourced’ philosophy, emphasizing the use of materials from sustainable Australian pine plantations and developing ingenious solutions for packaging and transporting his products when disassembled, such as utilizing Australian-made Shockloc straps. His vision included creating employment opportunities for local residents, solidifying his commitment to the community he held so dear.
Sam Knight’s legacy lives on not only through his innovative cycling products but also in the hearts of the community he touched with his passion, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to making the world a happier place for everyone.
