Saint-Gilles-based activist, Henri Dineur passes away in Brussels: Obituary

Saint-Gilles, Brussels – The community of Saint-Gilles is in mourning following the passing of Henri Dineur, a respected activist and dedicated member of the party with significant responsibilities, particularly in the Brussels region. Comrade Henri Dineur’s passing was confirmed on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, by PS Saint-Gilles. His exceptional intelligence, rare ability for strategic planning, and creative drive were always dedicated to his commitments, alongside unwavering loyalty to his friends, fellow politicians, and the community.

In a statement, PS Saint-Gilles expressed their condolences: “To his relatives, his family, his friends, and comrades, but also to the socialist comrades of Saint-Gilles, I offer on behalf of the Brussels Parliament our heartfelt condolences.” As of now, no official information regarding the cause of his death has been released.

Henri Dineur was a well-known figure in the Brussels political landscape. In 2004, he assumed the role of chief of staff to Charles Picqué, who was reappointed as the Minister-President of the Capital Region at that time. Dineur’s expertise, particularly in urban planning, made him an indispensable right-hand man for Picqué, earning him the reputation of being Picqué’s “gray eminence.” His exceptional abilities and vitality propelled him to further success when he transitioned to the private sector.

In 2004, Dineur was appointed president of SA Palais des Congrès, the organization responsible for overseeing the operations and renovation of the Palais des Congrès. Under his leadership, the historic site, located near the Central Station, was meticulously restored, transforming it into the vibrant hub known as “the Square.” The renovated venue has become a thriving center for various events and activities.

Currently, Dineur serves the City of Brussels through his role at Exhibitions&Congres Services SA, a private company mandated to assist the City in the comprehensive redevelopment of the Heysel plateau. This ambitious Neo project aims to create a sprawling complex comprising residential buildings, commercial establishments, sports and entertainment facilities, and a convention center, contributing significantly to the city’s growth and development.

Henri Dineur’s legacy as a dedicated activist and urban planner will be remembered and cherished by the community he served, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of Brussels and the hearts of those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
