In a deeply somber moment, the unexpected and sudden passing of Ryan Jacob O’Hara, a remarkable individual set to celebrate his 30th birthday, has left the community in Raleigh grappling with profound loss. The tragedy was caused by an unexplainable pulmonary embolism that occurred at his home just days before his anticipated milestone.
Grace Auton Teasdall shared Ryan Jacob’s passing and wrote,

Ryan, born on October 8, 1993, was a beacon of love, compassion, and thoughtfulness to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, fiancé, and friend, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. His legacy will continue to shine brightly, a testament to the joy and love he brought into the lives of others.
Throughout his life, Ryan wholeheartedly committed himself to various pursuits, from excelling in academics and his career to actively engaging in sports, volunteering, and community service initiatives. His impact on those around him was immeasurable, and his memory will forever be cherished.
Ryan’s infectious laughter, quick wit, encouragement, knowledge, and competitive spirit had a way of lighting up any room. He was universally loved for his selflessness, sentimentality, and determined nature that encouraged others to dream big and work harder. Ryan’s approach to life was bold yet gentle, and his capacity to love deeply will be fondly remembered.
An early adopter of opportunities, Ryan enthusiastically participated in numerous little league sports, particularly football and basketball. His love for sports carried into adulthood, where he became an offensive lineman for the Southwestern Randolph Cougars, earning the All-Conference award during his senior year. His accomplishments extended beyond the field as he excelled in academics, clubs, and community service activities in high school.
Ryan pursued higher education at UNC-Chapel Hill, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise and Sports Science and a minor in coaching education in 2016. His passion for medicine drove him to the Wake Forest School of Medicine’s Physician Assistant (PA) Studies Program, where he graduated in 2018. Ryan was a dedicated PA, making meaningful contributions to the medical field.
He furthered his education to become a PA educator, obtaining a Doctorate of Medical Science (DMSc) and an MBA from UNC-Pembroke. Ryan embraced new opportunities, transitioning to a career in the industry as a Medical Science Liaison at Eisai US within their Oncology group. He found immense fulfillment in this role, making a positive impact on colleagues and stakeholders alike.
Ryan’s untimely departure has left a void in the hearts of many, but his spirit, drive, and zest for life remain an inspiration to all. A celebration of life will be held to honor Ryan’s memory on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Pugh Funeral Home. Family visitation will commence at 1:30 pm, followed by a service at 3:30 pm. Attendees are encouraged to wear Carolina blue and bow ties in Ryan’s honor.
Ryan is survived by his loving parents, Patrick and Denese O’Hara, fiancé Kendall Woodlief, brother Branson O’Hara and sister-in-law Jenny O’Hara, nephew Callen O’Hara, uncle and aunt Michael and Donna Morris, and many cherished cousins. The community also mourns his loss, including close friends, colleagues, mentors, and peers. A memorial scholarship in Ryan’s name, dedicated to supporting aspiring Physician Assistant students, has been established, encouraging contributions in lieu of flowers.
