Madoc was born on 16 April 1943 in Norwich, England and attended RADA in London. She started her career with a few films before becoming famous when appearing on the show Poem and Pints. Ruth is best known for her theatrical performances, in which she performed various roles in many plays and musicals. She was cast as Gladys Pugh in the BBC comedy Hi-de-Hi!. Hi-de-Hi!, created by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, ran for nine seasons and 58 episodes from January 1, 1980 to January 30, 1988.
