Robert Saleh is the National Football League (NFL) head coach of the New York Jets, an American football team. From 2017 to 2020, he worked as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator.
Saleh was born to Lebanese parents in Dearborn, Michigan. He participated in Division III collegiate football at Northern Michigan University, where he started at outside linebacker for two seasons. Saleh signed a non-drafted free agency contract with the Seattle Seahawks in 2007 after earning his degree from Northern Michigan. He played in 16 games over the course of two seasons with the Seahawks.
Saleh was hired by the Houston Texans in 2009 to serve as the defensive quality control coach. In 2011 and 2014, he received promotions to assistant defensive line coach and defensive line coach, respectively. Saleh began working for the Seattle Seahawks in 2015 as the defensive coordinator. In 2017, the San Francisco 49ers hired him to serve as their defensive coordinator.
On January 14, 2021, Saleh was appointed head coach of the New York Jets. He is the NFL’s first ever Arab-American head coach.
