Lewiston, Maine, is in a state of shock and urgency as authorities intensify their efforts to locate Robert Card, the primary suspect in two mass shootings that have left at least 18 people dead and another 13 injured. The horrifying events unfolded on Wednesday night, and officials are racing against time to bring the suspect to justice.
Initially labeled as a person of interest, Robert Card has now been officially designated as a suspect in the tragic shootings. Law enforcement has issued an arrest warrant for eight counts of murder in connection with the case, and the investigation is ongoing. The victims’ families have been notified as eight of the shooting victims have been identified, but the counts may rise as authorities identify the remaining victims.
Robert Card, 40 years old, hails from Bowdoin, a town near Lewiston, and is described as being 5’11” tall, weighing 230 pounds. The Lewiston Police Department has issued a warning, emphasizing that Card should be considered “armed and dangerous.” They revealed that he fled the scene following the shootings, sparking a widespread manhunt.
As the search continues, multiple shelter-in-place orders have been issued for cities and counties in the region, reflecting the urgency of the situation. Authorities have released images of the suspect and are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying him.
Images shared on social media depict Card at one of the shooting scenes, holding a semiautomatic rifle. He was wearing a brown shirt, dark pants, and light shoes. Although the brand of the weapon is unknown, officials described it as an assault rifle with an extended magazine and a scope.
Card’s background includes attending the University of Maine as an engineering student, but it remains uncertain whether he graduated from the institution. His last known address was in Bowdoin, adding an additional layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
