Rising star of Ayr ‘Robbie Meiklem’ dies at 19, Scots clubs paid tribute to young footballer

Ayrshire, Scotland – The sudden and tragic passing of 19-year-old Robbie Meiklem, a talented footballer with Girvan FC’s Under-20s development team, has left a Scottish family heartbroken. Robbie, described as a loving and caring young man, sadly took his own life on September 23, sparking an urgent plea from his devastated father, Rab Meiklem.

Rab, shattered by the loss of his son, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, urging parents to embrace their children and express their love. He emphasized that there were no signs or clues indicating Robbie was struggling with his mental health. The family chose to honor Robbie’s wishes and donated his organs, ultimately saving six lives.

Robert Meiklem shared on facebook,

“I don’t normally post on Facebook but I feel a strong need to expose mental health issues within our young generation.Sadly on Saturday night after a wonderful day at the races my son Robbie Meiklem took his own life. Robbie was a lovely caring young man who was loved by his mum and dad, sisters, gran and papa and aunties and uncles.Robbie never asked for anything but was given everything. He was well mannered and respectful to everyone he met in life. We the family are all struggling to come to terms with what has happened. I would like to thank everyone for their kind messages and support. After three days on life support with no hope it was decided to follow Robbies wishes to donate his organs to help others. During a late night operation which has never been done before at Ayr hospital, Robbies healthy organs were donated to six recipients throughout the UK. Surgeons have called this Robbies legacy and after a early call this morning we were informed that Robbies heart beats on.In total Robbie has managed to save six lives due to Robbies legacy. This does not take the pain away but knowing that Robbies heart is still beating is giving our family some solice and comfort. There were no signs or clues to alarm us with what Robbie was going to do. Only Robbie will ever know why he did what he did. I’m not angry anymore just heartbroken and confused as are all the family. Please I beg you all to take mental health issues more seriously to avoid the pain we are going through.Cuddle your children tonight and tell them you love them.”
