Former Big Brother Naija housemate Rico Swavey died on October 13, 2022, at the age of 29 after being involved in an accident a few days before. Tobi Bakre and Sandra Alexandra, who both appeared on BB Naija, shared the news on Twitter. Tobi stated:

Sandra also shared her grief for Swaveyโs sudden passing in a tweet that stated:

Rico Swavey was killed in a car accident on Tuesday, October 11. Following the event, he slipped into a coma, and Nigerian celebrities organized a fundraiser to assist him pay for his care.ย Tobi Bakre revealed that Swavey was on life support while collecting money on social media. Swaveyโs management also verified the story, and even posted a video of the smashed automobile. Tobi said on Twitter:
โPlease assist in saving Rico. He was in a terrible vehicle accident. We must keep him on life support and continue to pay his mounting medical expenditures while praying for a miracle from God. We canโt do it on our own. Please visit ricoswavey.com to make a donation.โ

Sandra Alexandra announced Swaveyโs accident on Twitter and stated on her Instagram Story that he is in serious condition and needs everyoneโs financial support and prayers. She went on:
โI also wish I could provide more information on his health, but how can I while we are still waiting for the doctors and God to rescue this sweet life, or at the very least for Rico to respond? Swaveyโs family relatives have survived him. He never spoke about his personal life, and thereโs no word on whether he was married or dating anybody.

He was born in 1992 and attended Babcock University, where he studied law. He has seven siblings and excelled in singing and swimming.ย Swavey dabbled in music before joining Big Brother. He has also appeared in a few films. He recorded the song Afrosantana and participated in the film Tinsel, as well as the drama series Life 101.
While competing on Huge Brother Naija, he was asked what he would do with a million dollars, to which Swavey answered that he would be in a big home catching waves. On January 28, 2018, he entered Big Brother Naija and said that cooking was his method of expressing himself since he prepared the most for the housemates.ย Rico Swavey was fired from the program after ten weeks and seventy days. Following his removal, he admitted to liking one of the housemates, Ahneeka. He took part in the program to aid his autistic relative and to invest in his music career.
