Rick Reilly News

What follows is history. A steroid testing lab’s business card was given to Sosa by Reilly. Sosa panicked. Motherf—-, this interview is over.

For more than 23 years, Rick Reilly entertained Sports Illustrated readers as the magazine’s “back-page writer.” Since I was able to read, whenever a new edition of SI arrived in the mail, I would read the “funny guy in the back” before throwing the magazine away. I liked Reilly’s colourful flair even before I understood who Sammy Sosa was.

In the same way that my interest in journalism grew, so did my interest in Rick Reilly. The college library cleaned out its back rooms full of magazines during my first year of community college, and we had a first come, first served policy for taking the magazines home.

I brought a few Sports Illustrated publications home with me would eventually produce value. That evening, as I turned the pages of the pieces, I came across Rick once more. I then read the four “Life of Reilly” articles in the back.

But alas, everything nice has to come to an end. After 23 years of writing for SI, Reilly decided to retire in November 2007. As I read the final SI article, Giving Up The Life, I started crying.

I then started frantically looking through Reilly articles. On the Internet, I discovered the SI Vault, but it wasn’t the same. I only wanted to open a brand-new magazine with a brand-new Reilly column.

Slo Mo!, Missing Links, Shanks for Nothing, The Life of Reilly, Hate Mail from Cheerleaders, and Who’s Your Caddy are the seven novels by Reilly that I purchased.
