It’s been a while since I had gotten to see you, but watching you grow from our awkward middle school and high school stages to the strong, adventurous and smart women you became was something to be jealous of. Seeing all your travels made me feel like you had finally made it – doing something you loved made me so happy for you, even if it was from a distance. You were taken way too soon and will be missed so much, Rachel Heiss”.

Perri Rumstein paid tribute through facebook post, saying:

“I’m heartbroken to have lost one of my very best friends, Rachel Heiss, this past weekend. Her fearless spirit led her from Chicago to Ithaca to NYC to Boston to Seattle. It was there that she fell in love with the city and immersed herself in the beauty of nature’s most breathtaking landscapes. It brings a bit of solace to know that she passed away doing what she loved, in a place she cherished.

Rachel’s impact on my life is immeasurable. She pushed me to have more confidence, to step out into the world and take on leadership roles in work, at school and in the community. I owe so much of who I am today to her unwavering belief in me and the incredible example she set with her endless strength, smarts, wit, and ambition. We graduated together, embarked on our careers in advertising in New York, and shared countless laughs and adventures over the past 15 years. She wasn’t just a friend; she became family, and our bond deepened with every laugh, every road trip, every forced sing-along to wagon wheel, every trip to a dive bar, every bite of deep dish pizza, every sip of craft beer and every story we created together.

My heart goes out to Rachel’s family , friends and the entire IC bomber community. Her light touched so many lives, and her absence leaves an indescribable void. To honor Rachel’s memory and love for the great outdoors, @milehighsteven set up a fundraiser for the National Park Foundation. Rachel, you were a force to be reckoned with, and your zest for life will always be an inspiration as I learn to navigate life without you. Thank you for being such an incredible friend and source of light in my life. I love you always and forever ♥️”
