In the coaching world, I think it is common place for us to refer to our athletes as “our kids”. Yesterday I lost one of my boys. Jayvon Pryor was a freshman on the cross country and track & field teams here at Queens..Jayvon Pryor, you always seemed to say the things everyone was thinking when we thought better not to say it, you said it any way. You made everyone laugh and had a lasting impact on everyone on the team. Your Strava picture is still my face. The chaos you were about to cause me with those Strava DMs dropping this week. I’m going to miss those moments we were able to joke about that. I’m going to miss being proud of how well you were doing here at Queens despite your worries about college classes. We are all going to miss you Jayvon..To our @queens_tf_xc athletes, I’m proud of the way you are taking care of each other. I am proud of our coaches and the Queens community coming together to take care of everyone and provide the resources necessary to support our student-athletes. Please know there is always someone one call away. Use the campus resources, call home, call friends. All the above have served me during the past 24 hours..To my coaching colleagues, we see it too often but it doesn’t really hit until it happens to one of your kids. Talk to your teams today and let them know they have us in those dark moments and they have all types of campus resources. We can fix anything if you let us help, but we can’t fix this. #suicideprevention.Rest in Peace Jayvon, we will be running for you for the next 4 years that your were supposed to be wearing the blue and gold. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jayvon’s parents, family, and friends during this time. We will have a candle light vigil tonight at 6:30pm on campus at the clock tower tonight to remember Jayvon. #RoyalsRise

In this challenging time, the University community is urged to come together to support fellow Royals facing this difficult loss. Remember, assistance is available day or night, emphasizing the community’s commitment to the health and well-being of its members.
