Lahore – The Punjab government will declare a public holiday in Lahore on 11 March 2023, to mark the annual Urs Mubarak feast of the Sufi saint Shah Hussain, also known as Madhu Madhu Lal Hussain. According to the announcement made by the General Administration and Services Department of the Punjab government, the holiday will be celebrated at the district level, including all subordinate offices located in Lahore district.
This announcement is expected to facilitate devotees and followers of the venerable saint to participate in the celebrations and pay homage to his teachings and philosophies. Urs is an important event in Lahore’s cultural and religious calendar, attracting a large number of visitors from all over the country and abroad. It provides an opportunity for people to connect with their spiritual roots and celebrates the rich heritage of Sufi culture in Pakistan.
The shrine of Sufi poet Madhu Lal Hussain is getting ready to host the 435th annual Urs festival, which will begin with traditional ceremonies. The event will see the presence of famous Qwals and Naat Khuwans, who will captivate the devotees with their performances.
Devotees from all over Pakistan are expected to take part in the momentous occasion, and the provincial government has arranged strict security to ensure the safety of those present.
Madhu Lal Hussain was a 16th-century Sufi saint best known for his Kafis, a poetic form. He was buried in Baghbanpura, an old town in Lahore. The saint is widely revered for his teachings that symbolize love and harmony between different religions.
