Pedie King Obituary: Dewyone Arnell King passes away at 49 in Hickory, NC

HICKORY, NC – The community of Hickory is coming together to remember and honor the life of Dewyone Arnell King, affectionately known as Pedie King, who passed away on August 22, 2023, at the age of 49. Pedie’s vibrant presence and unwavering enthusiasm for life left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

Born on November 9, 1973, in Catawba County, Pedie King was the son of Sharon King Corpening and the late Gregory Arnell Corpening. He was a beloved member of the Morning Star First Baptist Church and a prominent figure in the community.

Pedie’s journey was marked by his dedication to education and sports. He graduated from Hickory High School and Lenoir Rhyne College, where he excelled in football. His passion for the game earned him a comprehensive scholarship to Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he graduated in 1996 with a degree in sports management and a minor in business.

Beyond academics and athletics, Pedie King was known for his infectious enthusiasm. Whether engaging in community events, leading teams at work, or simply chatting with people in his everyday life, his genuine excitement was palpable. This enthusiasm wasn’t manufactured; it was a reflection of his deep passion for life and the people around him.

Pedie’s selflessness shone brightly, demonstrating the power of putting others’ needs ahead of his own. His actions were a testament to his unwavering belief in the importance of positively contributing to his community.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kerri Session King, three children – Bristen Thomas King, Tyson Gregory King, and Alani Brielle King – as well as his sister, Shamekia Pegram, and extended family members.

A celebration of Pedie King’s life will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 4:00 PM in the Hickory High School Gymnasium. Reverend David Roberts will officiate the service. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, and an informal gathering will follow the service at Hickory High School.

In memory of Pedie King, the family has suggested that memorials be directed to the Hickory High Boosters, with donations accepted at P.O. Box 1117, Hickory, NC 28603.

Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory is dedicated to serving the King family during this time of remembrance and reflection. Pedie King’s legacy will forever remind us to embrace life with enthusiasm, selflessness, and a deep commitment to community.
