Pandora Sykes News

If there’s anyone we can rely on for a literary recommendation when looking for a great book to read, it’s Pandora Sykes. She will serve as a judge on the Women’s Fiction Awards in 2022 in addition to being the host of the podcast The High Low.

That’s what makes her most recent endeavor so compelling. Two weeks after Sykes revamped our Stylist Live reading recommendations, she announced that she’ll soon be creating a new podcast entirely dedicated to books.

Authors Bobby Palmer and Sykes of Isaac And The Egg will host the event, dubbed Book Talk (a great name). According to the trailer, the podcast will do “what it says on the tin”. Each episode will feature Sykes and Palmer, each carrying a book, after which they will chat.

The books must be at least two years old and that is the only restriction. That’s right, the two will discuss favorite novels already on their bookshelves and possibly yours, too. There won’t be any new releases, hype readings, or top 10 blockbusters here.

The idea is that we go to books that we might have bought years ago and completely forget that we even own, instead of prompting us to run out and buy the latest edition. of anything on our Instagram feed. Alternatively, we can borrow the book from a friend or buy it used.

And we will only release one episode once a month in this environment of constant consumption and cultural overload, Sykes said. “We will announce our books for the next volume at the end of each volume.” Imagine it as a traditional book club, only in podcast form and featuring Bobby Palmer and Pandora Sykes. To us, that sounds good.

The first edition of the podcast will be available on December 1; Subsequent episodes will take place on the first day of each subsequent month. Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin is the first book Sykes should borrow from the library, while Sarah Winman’s Tin Man is Bobby’s pick. Search your shelves or head straight to the library for a copy of Sykes’ original selection, Tales Of The City by Armistead Maupin, and Palmer’s selection, Sarah Winman’s Tin Man.
